My spectacular wedding cake was baked by a dear friend and incredibly talented pastry chef, Francina Stewart. The topper was made by my husband and jack-of-all-trades, Jeff. Not only is he a creative artist and puppeteer (see more of his work here and here), but he is also an excellent mixologist who develops cocktails for an exciting new restaurant in Brooklyn. I'm quite lucky. The topper is a miniature version of the two of us, down to the hair, bouquet and outfits. | |
A pinch more about Francina: I met Francina when I was working as a baker at One Girl Cookies in Cobble Hill. We baked and sang together for almost three years. Our favorite activity was singing parodies to our favorite personified pastry tools (Tiny the paring knife, Woody the small wooden cutting board...) and ingredients...."Tiny Likes to Party All the Time" and "Curd is the Word" are two classics. Anyway, I highly recommend you check out her cakes on the One Girl site and anywhere else they're featured in magazines or on the web, like here on marthastewart.com. One lady was so inspired by the cake, she did her nails to match. |
