VIVIAN (THAT'S ME!) AND JEFF

My spectacular wedding cake was baked by a dear friend and incredibly talented pastry chef, Francina Stewart. The topper was made by my husband and jack-of-all-trades, Jeff. Not only is he a creative artist and puppeteer (see more of his work here and here), but he is also an excellent mixologist who develops cocktails for an exciting new restaurant in Brooklyn. I'm quite lucky. The topper is a miniature version of the two of us, down to the hair, bouquet and outfits.
A pinch more about Francina: I met Francina when I was working as a baker at One Girl Cookies in Cobble Hill. We baked and sang together for almost three years. Our favorite activity was singing parodies to our favorite personified pastry tools (Tiny the paring knife, Woody the small wooden cutting board...) and ingredients...."Tiny Likes to Party All the Time" and "Curd is the Word" are two classics. Anyway, I highly recommend you check out her cakes on the One Girl site and anywhere else they're featured in magazines or on the web, like here on marthastewart.com. One lady was so inspired by the cake, she did her nails to match.

UCHENNA AND STEVE

It’s a rare treat when you ask the bride what kind of cake she wants, and she replies, “surprise me.” I didn’t even need to finish my conversation with Uchenna about the wedding, and the idea came to me: champagne peaches and cream with vanilla cake. She wore orchids in her hair and I wanted the cake to evoke the colors of a sunset. The wedding was at Bubby’s in Brooklyn, and I thought this would fit the Americana style of the day. The couple wanted a small cake and whoopie pies (same flavor as the cake) as party favors.

KARA AND KERRY

Kara and Kerry had their wedding at the Stanton Social. The cupcakes were vanilla, chocolate and red velvet, all topped with a rich buttercream. It was the first time I used cupcake wrappers, and I have to admit, they are cute. They add a little extra to a simple decoration.

KATHY AND ROB

My friend Kathy’s wedding cake was the first one I baked for my cake company. It was chocolate cake with a passion fruit curd filling. Scroll down to see an image of the cake. Actually, you should probably check out all the images- the wedding was beautiful and the photos are the best wedding pics I’ve ever seen. Kathy and Rob really put a lot of though into every detail, pretty much designed and built the whole wedding themselves, by hand, and were able to remain as chic and fabulous as ever.
